capoeira! wheee!
Dec. 14th, 2005 09:04 pmhi kids! hi mum!
just a quick one - i got ten minutes free internet with a phonecard so i'm squeezing in a quick post. hoping that the capoeira kids don't break precedent and finally manage to make a decision and leave somewhere in under half an hour. not likely.
the batukege batizado has been awesome so far. i've been feeling really relaxed around all the capoeira kids, ours and the ones from other groups, and the rodas have been amazing. really fast, really hard. there're about ten teachers here so there are some crazy games happening. much more aggressive than we're used to (though not the couple of games i've played - they know what level you can manage).
melbourne is lovely, and i still have no sense of where i am. so much stuff i want to explore still, and no time!
i had about a million things i wanted to write about. an african guy in the markets lecturing us (for about 20 minutes) on how everything brazilian comes from africa. expansive african gesturing, puffing himself up and telling us that he has an intimidating west african physique. and i learnt to dance forro, at least a little.
and, so exciting, i found a bookcrossing book today! my first capture!
i miss you all! *waves frantically*
