What I've been up to: not much
Feb. 5th, 2007 10:54 amHermanus is a nice place to do nothing very much. I've gone for a few long walks, spent some time with family, gone for a few drives around the coast, and even (*gasp*) done some uni work and put up a new post to my research blog.
The walks have been quite lovely... yesterday Lance and I went through a particularly lovely nature reserve. There were a few places where you have to walk across wood bridges or climb up rock with the aid of ropes - nothing too strenuous, but it does make things interesting. At the end of our walk was a huge waterfall, just a trickle now. There were orchid all over the face of the waterfall, and I got a hint of the excitement of orchid collecting. There was a stream running through the valley we walked through, and we stopped to swim at one of the pools on the way back. Of course, I retained my usual nervousness about water and only swam briefly - the tea-coloured water (iron leaching from the rocks?) had me quite worried that Things would eat me any second.
My plans for the next few days are more of the same. On Thursday I'm going to Durban, until Sunday morning. In retrospect, I think it might have been worth staying a little longer, but tickets are booked now so that's that. I'll be staying with a friend, Zoe, who's older and wiser than me and seems very aware of the security situation - I'm sure she'll keep me quite safe.
