In case you haven't realised yet, my titles/cut texts are coming from things that are written around my desk.

The last few days have been days off, which for Saturday and Sunday at least meant more doing different stuff than doing nothing much. I am not unhappy with that. I bought a couple more plants from the swapmeet, so now I have chillies, oregano, brahmi, basil, parsley (two types), rosemary, mint and fennel. Most of them look like they're doing fairly well.

I also bought a mug.

I did some cleaning, and that combined with Kale's Herculean effort with the dishes (he diverted a river and washed them away) means that our house is feeling quite pleasant again. Plus also I've been spending some time with Nathan and Kale together, playing Scrabble mostly (which Nathan keeps winning and I keep losing terribly, severely denting my self-confidence), so the house feels a bit more like somewhere I live rather than just a place that stops it raining on me while I sleep.

Nathan cleared out the spare room/sleepout, too, so I'm going to fiddle around a bit with that space and try to make it into a nicer place to work now and then.

I've also done a bit of clearing - I went through all my old photos from primary school up 'til the end of highschool and stuck a few into an album, threw out the rest. It made me a little sad, but not much. Mostly it just made me remember how awkward and ill-fitting I used to feel. I think I feel less like that now.

Today I should have worked more, but I'm feeling like a little limpet - all I really feel like doing is hugging onto Kale and not letting go for a few days. So Kale was nice enough to indulge me and take me to the environment house in Maylands to get some dolomite for my worm farm (it's infested with vinegar flies and slugs, damn things). I also ended up getting some clay deoderant (??), more cleaning-stuff, and a DVD on uranium mining and indigenous people.

I mentioned to the woman working there that the DVD was to start research on my next case study, and so I ended up sitting down and having tea and (delicious) cinnamon, clove and cranberry cake with her and the other woman who runs environment house, chatting about anti-nuclear activism in Perth. Some of it was quite useful, which is good, although I was really feeling too distracted to be able to put on my adult researcher self.

Today feels like a day for domesticity and cosiness. I am not really in the mood for my office. I am in the mood for chai-on-the-stove and cooking and making spaces pretty.

I am trying very hard to think about human security instead, though.

My basil died. Next Sunday I should visit the swapmeet and buy some more.

I lost at Scrabble today too.
