Well, this morning I did my first proper interview.
It was with Suresh Heblikar from Eco Watch, who was incredibly friendly and helpful. I'd been feeling a little unnerved after last night - there were a heap of unidentified bangs outside the hotel, which freaked me out. I was feeling slightly recovered after actually managing to successfully catch the bus to Jayanagar, and find the place (after asking about eight people for directions, which is how finding things works in India, even for locals). Then once I got there I was offered tea and generally coddled, and felt ridiculously spoilt. Suresh and Akshay, his son (who also works with Eco Watch) also insisted on taking me to see a hotel near their place, which was nice, in a safer area, and cheaper than the one I'm in now. Since they've insisted that I come to Eco Watch whenever I want to, and have invited me to various of the organisation's activities, I decided to take their advice and relocate. So, as of the 20th I will be staying at Sanman Lodge, #5, RV Road, South End Circle, Basavanagudi.
They also undertook additional fussing, and gave me lunch (including my first taste of both groundnut and chilli and my first post-meal betel nut), suggested other people to talk to, and gave me a lift back to Chickpete.
My interview with Suresh went quite well, although I find it difficult to properly direct the conversation, something which bothers me more from a research perspective than a personal perspective as everything he was saying was very interesting. At some stage in the next couple of days I'm going to get around to transcribing the interview and putting it up on here - partly so I can pretend I am all journalisty and blogger-ish, but mostly because it's probably the best way of ensuring I have a copy that I won't lose.
Also, Suresh seems to know most of the people that I've talked to thus far, which gives me a bit more hope that my research is covering the right areas.
In non-Eco Watch related news:
* Last night I stayed up past my bedtime, because I got carried away with what I was doing. Which was, as it turns out, algebra. I'm really enjoying it, although I find it frustrating that I've forgotten so much...I'm stuck on a particular type of problem that I know should be easy, but isn't. Damn indices.
* I miss capoeira!
* I miss you guys!
* Writing is still 'percolating'. So, no, I haven't done much. I wanted to do some last night but then I got caught up in the algebra. Maybe tonight's the night.
And that is all, for now.
