I'm having a very nice day today. I'm getting ridiculously excited about small things, which is pleasant because there are so many small things to get ridiculously excited about (even if you don't count the squirrels that i've seen running around this 'cyberpoint').

Having a mobile makes me feel so much better. Ridiculously so. And food! I can eat food! Last night i managed to convey my need for non-spicy food, and I got to eat noodles. Noodles! I think it's the first meal I've had here that isn't Indian, and while Indian food is great eating it for three meals a day every day can get a bit much. I ate noodles and then I watched Kung-Fu movies and did some painting, and it was great.

And this morning, also, I have been excited. I was waiting for my cyberpoint to open, so I had a piece of chocolate (jaffa?) cake and some pineapple for breakfast, and even managed to get my pineapple without salt on it. And then I wandered around the streets and felt oriented enough to go down some of the little alleys, so I saw the residential streets - the houses/apartment blocks here are so beautiful. Lots of colour and interesting designs, and chalk patterns on the pavement, and garlands of marigolds. I took a few photos, although not many because it still seems kind of rude.

There are so many things I want to write about! Everything here is so new and amazing to me. Yesterday when I went to get my photo taken i had to go up two floors on a narrow staircase to a tiny room where people were working on all this fairly high-tech photo equipment, barefoot on the floor. Bangalore is so full of this contrast between it's high-tech nature (Bangalore is India's Silicone Valley) and traditional India. There are high-tech enclaves a while out of town, but even in my area modern technology is so ubiquitous, but used in a very Indian way. There are small shops that do video editing right next to temples. The cyberpoint I've been going to here has about eight dated computers in a room smaller than most of your bedrooms would be, covered in dust because everything here is dusty, and there are squirrels around and pictures of gods, but the computers work well, and there are webcams on a lot of them and it's almost full most of the time that I come here.

I want to write more - not just about all this (which is amazing to me but doesn't make a particularly exciting story for others just yet), but also some fiction I have bouncing around my head. I've been thinking a lot about how to describe things, and the stuff I want to write, but it all still tumbles out in one big blur, and I haven't really put pen to paper seriously yet.

Also, in all this excitement I'm trying to get my research back on track. It doesn't help that emails rarely get responses and there's been a change in telephone numbers recently so half the numbers I have no longer work. Still, I managed to track down a few more leads, and I'll do more work on that so I have a lot of people to call my Monday.

Finally:

Photos from Bantus's trip to Melbourne to the Batukege batizado are now up on the Bantus website. Also, I wish I could make this stuff for a certain young man.

And a very early happy birthday to young Lizzie. I expect a party come July!

Also: gosh but my page is ugly. I keep looking at it and thinking, ick, how ugly, I must change that sometime soon. And, sometime soon I will....really...
