Current dilemma: how to transport my laptop to and from home without having to catch buses/trains. Right now the plan is to cycle to and from uni as much as possible, although given current levels of fitness and motivation this might not eventuate. Still, given that it's the ideal I'd like some ideas on how to move my laptop via bicycle - not too often, I'm planning on leaving it at work, mostly. I was considering sticking some kind of crate to the carrier on the back of my bicycle, and perhaps tying the laptop into that. Concerns: will it get jolted around too much? What if it rains?

Ideas are welcome!

I would think a backpack would probably be your easiest method... or am I missing something?

A snug backpack is fine. Wrap it in plastic just in case you get rained on. Assuming the machine is shut down you won't have any problems.

this is almost certainly complicating things, but in the little coastal town I work in, many of the old people ride giant tricylces- one front wheel, with a fairly substantial box thing between the two rear wheels. I guess you'd only try something like that if you want a general runabout with some carrying capacity... i'm guessing you wouldn't mind looking slightly comical?

Looking slightly comical is not really an issue at all. If I find one of the tricycle-things I may try it out.
