I am spending an awful lot of time at my desk these days.

Longish days of somewhat unproductive work, shortish evenings of more productive work. It doesn't seem enough, though.

On the plus side, though, I had lunch with my father today and enjoyed it very much. I showed him our garden, and discussed the possibility of him using his boat-building skills to plug up our increasingly unseaworthy house. I am excited at the thought of spending a sunny afternoon with him sometime doing productive things that don't involve a computer. Also quite excited at the thought of finally sorting out our sleepout so that it's a nice space for me to work in now and then.

I also spoke with my mother, albeit too briefly. It is nice that she cares me for, and also nice that she conveyed my brother's care. It is necessary that I make some time for him, soon.

I wish I knew what one made time out of.

Hopefully it will be touched upon in The elegant universe: superstrings, hidden dimensions, and the quest for the ultimate theory, my current reading. It is somewhat harder going than yesterday's book, Not the end of the world, which is now on my list of available bookcrossing books. (Feel free to make requests, bibliophiles!) Both are, I feel, worthwhile. I also quite like the combination of The elegant universe and Greg Egan's Diaspora, as a rather nice complementary couple.

In other news: there is no other news.

I'm assuming your irritation at feminists was somehow a result of reading that quote. I'm not sure how that quote makes you think "oh noes, identity politics".

Explain yourself.

Also, why shouldn't you be implicated as culpable in the oppression of people? You, and I for that matter, both live the comfortable lives that we do in large part because of the oppression of large parts of the rest of the world, both historically and in the present. What gives us the right to benefit from that but at the same time say we aren't culpable in any way?
