This morning was lovely, because I hid in my room and re-read 'Life of Pi' while I waited for the day to start. So I was feeling quite cheerful when I left the house, because as well as books to delight me the weather today is ridiculously lovely.

Unfortunately, after walking past the fourth shop selling something I wanted and thinking, "Oh, no, I won't go in, then I'll have to talk to people", I realised that today was going to be somewhat difficult. Because my mission for today is to call people up and ask for help and interviews.

Ick.

So I am taking little breaks in between each phonecall, and trying not to get too anxious about things.

In other news:
* I'm going to Hubli with Akshay and Suresh for a few days to see a few things (a research institute, a few workshops, some people). I'll be leaving tomorrow night and getting back on Friday evening, so don't fret if you aren't subjected to my usual five-second-interval posts.
* Mail will be sent out about the dean's postgraduate award by the end of the week. Hopefully if I don't get it I'll still have a few days to apply for the other source of funding I've been looking at for the ISTR conference.

i relate to that anxiety regarding talking to strangers and making demands on them (just think of how neccessary yr angle is and how much shitty research makes it to mass indian media such India Today and Time of India)! my approach, i think, is to do this stuff in the morning and get it over with and then just go somewhere nice and drink a coffee, buy a newspaper and write notes. i also went to a nice wedding/party yesterday, so i was all relaxed and feeling good about visiting a doctor who knew nothign about me to request research help.
