oh no!

Last night I plugged in my laptop battery... and nothing happened. It seems most likely that this means something involving my battery (ies?) just died. It seems most likely that the solution is to go to a computer shop and ask them to give me a new battery.

Nevertheless, I am doing my best to Ask the Internet if I've missed something here. It all seems a bit weird to me because the battery didn't play up at all before last night, and was still charging fairly well until then.

(I did try asking other bits of the internet, turning it off and then on again, and plugging it in somewhere else.)

Anything I should know here, internet?

Edit: After calling a couple of computer stores, it turns out I've been confused. My battery seems to be working, but the AC adaptor seems to be screwed.

The thing that confuses me about this is that the stores said they didn't have any AC adaptors for my laptop model (Toshiba Tecra s1) in stock. How specialised can an AC adaptor get? Surely most of them would be pretty similar?
