Stuff from yesterday:
* The woman at the airport who helped me get a taxi to a hotel first tried to put me on a plane to Lahore. I think my accent is kind of hard to understand at times.
* The whole "there's no alcohol in Pakistan" thing is complete bollocks. I haven't drunk here, but if I wanted to I would've had several chances.
* There are guys with guns gaurding the hotels, and I see a lot of guns around (on police and gaurds). I find this less than reassuring.
* My chances of going anywhere alone here are incredibly slim. WSF activists are very friendly - I've had a lot of people come up to me and introduce themselves around the hotel. Also a guy working at a muslim bank, who I might question further later. The hotel also seems reluctant to let us go around alone - to come to the cybercafe, a hotel boy took us (Michael and I) in a taxi (it's a five minute walk), dropped us off, and asked when we wanted to come back so he could pick us up again.
* Small differences: boys here don't hold hands like in India. India: toilet jugs, Pakistan: little Islamic-art-looking watering cans.
* The interview was fun. Michael and I also got asking to record a few "You're listening to MastFm 103" type messages. My favourite was "Mast Fm 103 Achaa Hay!"
* We got taken for dinner at the Press Club.
* Today: catching up with radio friends, opening ceremony for WSF, registration, networking, possibly looking for a different hotel.
Bye kids! And don't worry, I'm being well looked after.
