on monday night when i was cycling to capoeira i had to go over a narrow bridge, which was largely occupied by elderly chinese tourists. so i went pedalling along, ringing my bell as i came up being each little clump of people. and it took each of them a while to notice me, but when they did they would step aside and call out "tiang tiang tiang", just like a bicycle bell. they seemed very cheerful about it. i still don't know if it was some kind of greeting-to-cyclists or additional warning to the others or what, but i enjoyed that whole experience tremendously, despite the confusion and added travel time.
