i am sick of essays. thoroughly sick of them.
i am sad, because i haven't been to my grandparents' house in ages (for the non-greek among you, this means "about a fortnight"), and i feel like a bad granddaughter. i miss them, too.
i am more sad that giagia, papou and kyle will all by in kalgoorlie on sunday and so they can't come to my batizado. much as i don't think that others should have to come to gradings/performances/etc once you're over 15, it would be nice, still.

i want to hang around with friends and do nothing very much, tonight. or sometime soon. i am not optimistic about the chances of this happenening.

batizado: is that like a grading, or is it a performance? I would be about a zillion times more nervous if my friends or family were coming to my grading.

Kind of like a grading, except it's not like eastern martial arts gradings where you have to perform certain tasks and get marked/passed on them. At the batizado, you pretty much already have your belt - it's just the ceremony for getting it.

All you have to do it play with a couple of teachers until they take you down.

I'm going to pretty damn nervous already, I'm sure, and I'm sure that having people I know there might make it a little worse. Also, I'm sure I won't be playing at my best.

But last year for some reason it felt...special? to have my grandparents and my brother there.

Because capoeira is such a big part of my life, and it's nice to have people who i care about at what's pretty much the most important (although not most interesting) capoeira event of our year.

What martial art do you do?

Kobudo! It's a Japanese form using traditional weapons. The easiest way to explain it to people is to tell them I use the Ninja Turtles weapon, except not Leonardo's sword. The main weapon is the bo (Donatello), the tonfa (kind of like a wooden nightstick), the sai (Raphael) and the nunchuku (Michaelangelo, dude!). I have been doing it for about a year now and I love it! I am going for my brown belt in November.

Wow. that sounds amazingly cool.

I emit awe.

(and just a little envy. weapons. mmm.)

weapons = awesome

You should come and train with us, see if you like it! We are very welcoming to new people. We train at the UWA gym on Saturdays, 1pm. I will lend you a bo!

Hmm. That's actually awfully tempting. Maybe after the batizado is over...capoeira finishes at 12:15 on Saturdays so i could make it.

I should warn you, though, that i'm far less coordinated than all this talk of four training sessions a week might imply.
