No rants here!
Jan. 13th, 2007 01:16 pmWell, my last few days in Stockholm and I'm rushing through all the things I want to do. Not so much museums and other such touristy things, although of course there's plenty of that I wish I'd done, but mostly spending time with people here that I'll miss.
Last night I went to see Paris, je t'aime with V and F. Unfortunately, it hadn't occurred to any of us that it would be a problem that it was mainly in French, and subtitles were in Swedish. All three of us enjoyed it a lot anyway, and I got a running translation for some sections and muddled through others with the bits and pieces of Swedish and French that I've picked up. After the movie and coffee we ended up at V's place, drinking red wine and talking and arguing, picking up a few discussions we'd had earlier. I like this way both V and F have of coming back to a topic days or even weeks later, having been thinking about it in the meantime.
V taught me some shi gong (?) in the kitchen, and I taught her some bellydancing moves, and F went home so V and I danced in the living room. We played around with capoeira a bit, and talked about dancing, and I got all excited about showing her some of my favourite webcomics. After a while V's husband G came home, all excited about a punk show he'd just been to. They put on Swedish punk records and we all danced some more, and I tried to work out this all-elbows-and-knees dancing that is done. G said that the punk show had been fun for the sheer mass of flesh on the dance floor, the median age of the patrons reflecting the fact that the band playing was one of the first punk bands in Sweden. It was a side of V and G I hadn't seen before, in the short time I've known them, and it made me like them even more than I already did.
In the end I regretfully decided I should probably leave and let everyone get some sleep, and V put me in a taxi. The taxi home was interesting, too - the driver was from Azerbajan, and we spent a lot of time talking about languages - his and mine and our families', and the languages we both want to learn.
Today will be some more uni stuff, and trying to sort out accomodation for Nairobi (no room at the inn!), and then seeing S tonight. I've been having lunch with him a fair bit the last few days, since I've been bumming around the School where he's working. He feels very big-brother-ish, which is nice for me, as well as all the chatting about civil society stuff.
