New year's eve and stuff
Jan. 3rd, 2007 05:05 amBut before I start, I just wanted to say something that I keep forgetting to put on here: Sweden, unlike any other place I've been to, has pizza salads. If you get a pizza in a restaurant, you automatically get a pizza salad with it. Why? I have no idea. It's made of cabbage, I think. It's not bad, but also isn't my new favourite.
Anyway. New Year's Eve was pleasant, in a quiet kind of way. Had a very nice dinner, cooked and cleaned up by other people (making it all the more delicious). I got to be second-in-change of fireworks, which was fun. There were fireworks going off all over the island, booms and crackles and unexpected flashes. We had a heap of small ones and then a couple of big ones that made us all jump. I got to feel very cool, not only setting off explosives in front of kids but also being partly responsible for there being a studio ghibli movie around for them to watch.
Yesterday I played soccer with the kids, too, and enjoyed myself tremendously.
I'm becoming quite good friends with this family now, Goran and Viveka and their two kids, Leo and Lucas. Lots of fun discussions and I feel very comfortable around them. They make it very clear that they like me, especially Viveka and Leo, which means a lot to me. For some reason Viveka reminds me a lot of Tim (who remains out of contact, and who I had a worrying dream about last night), as well as of several characters from the Mars trilogy. I'm having dinner with them again tomorrow night, which I'm looking forward to.
Not much else to report. I'm back on the mainland now, enjoying the decadence of running water. Not much in particular planned for the next few days, apart from getting on with thesis stuff and a little bit of visiting.
