Last night I saw a Cool Thing: someone had spraypainted "Art not Ads" across some posters near the Luna. Hip hip hurrah for memes 'n' stuff.

I also quite liked the "If you see something, spray something" takeoff of the public transport anti-terrorism ads that I saw the other day.

In other news, we went to see the animation showcase last night, and I enjoyed bits of it. Carnivore Reflux made me giggle (and resolve, again, to get on with being vegetarian). I thought Inanimate Alice was beautiful. I also rather liked Tower Bawher, despite the fact that one guy decided that it merited him laughing out loud at it (not with it).

There were a few others, also, that were quite good, although not entirely to my tastes.

In other revelations news, I am rather sad that I missed Favela Rising - hopefully I'll find it at Planet sometime.

Also: I really, really want to go to the WSF in Nairobi next year. I'm still unsure if I'll make it, though.

Music news: I have had 'Bonnie and Clyde', by the Uptones, stuck in my head for the last day. It seems unjustified. Luckily my brother is lovely, and bought me I am a bird now, so I am listening that now. 'You are my Sister' is my new favourite.

That is all.

hey everybody! it's mooncup time again!

on the subject on not being convinced by ms. antony, i saw them last year and it was quite touching. what made it a bit unconvincing was that due to the hype that show took place at a huge jazz festival (wtf?) in the rathaus, which meant that not only the entire queer/indie crowd but also vienna's conservative elite fit in there. probably the weirdest thing i've ever see, audience wise. how did he become such a superstar so fast! he should be playing in little clubs being marvelled at by people who can relate to his gender issues!

the end.

Hehehe, I'm guessing because he (gender issues? she?) plays a Piano?

Sigur Ros were going to be playing a blues and roots festival here, as were public enemy. Thank god the sigur ros show was rescheduled to the concert hall.

Random asside - why, for the large part, do annoying musicians like Le Tigre or Peaches have to be the ones that explore gender issues? Hello? Queer post-rock bands? Where are you?

Hehe i thought about the Sigur Ros thing too when i wrote this. You are so lucky they decided to play a regular show!

Don't worry, Kathleen Hannah is breeding right now so maybe she will shut up for a while and just keep selling her best songs for advertisements.

I don't know about post rock bands? I mean a lot of them must have queer members as statistically one out of 10 people is gay, but obviously people who write serious music are not very likely to yell about their orientation on stage. Imagine that guy from Sigur Ros doing that!

I don't dislike Peaches as much as Le Tigre by the way. Le Tigre's recent attempt to bring feminism to the mainstream (aka selling out) is not really working at all. Their heart's not in it anyway, they even stopped doing their whole educational stage performance thing, which was what i used to admire about them so much. Now it's all colourful costumes, dance routines and Nivea commercials. Peaches on the other hand doesn't even try approaching complex topics like feminism. Her music may not be interesting but she's done a very good job of actually teaching lyrics like "shake yer dix" to mainstream kids. I like the way she explains herself sometimes too. "I think I'm mainstream (..) All those ideas? They're really normal for me – and why shouldn't they be? Why is it a beach party when Jan & Dean sing, 'Two girls for every boy' but a scandal when I sing, 'Two boys for every girl'?" Not that that is entirely revolutional, but it just doesn't annoy me as much, as she's not pretending to be hugely political.

Sorry about the rantage Sky!

I like rants!

Also: hurrah for mooncups, too!

I am quite pleased with mine, actually. I meant to put a review up following a full test-cycle, but didn't get around to it.

I think these kind of rants are the kind sky would welcome.

I forgot that Jonsi was gay. But at any rate his music has nothing to do with gener or sexuality issues (unless you decide that the parentheses on the cover of 'untitled' represent a vagina).

Owen Pallet writes about his sexuality doesn't he?

We could spend hours talking about gender issues and sexuality. Maybe we should wait til you're here and we can all discuss it together! Weee!

I'll be pleased to spend hours discussing music and politics/gender/sexuality with you, it clearly is one of my favourite topics. : )

Oh, I meant that Sky was included too. But obviously you and I will need to spend some time discussing sexuality with music. WHAT? Hehehe, moving right along...
