Daily haiku challenge

Words to be included: "geographical quirks".

My officemate wins! (I have no entry yet, but his is clearly brilliant.) Also, it helps if you know that he's studying stuff on refugees and today we were talking about arbitrary boundaries of nations, and whether they should influence how asylum seekers are treated.
