(no subject)

*cries*

just looked up more stuff on buju banton and shabba ranks, since they were singing a song i was listening to. came to the unavoidable decision that they were just too nastily homophobic to be on my listening-list...not that i'd know, since the song was in rather fast patois and i couldn't understand any of it. still. deleted.

i want to find some feminist (or otherwise nifty) dub/dancehall. i suspect i shall have no luck.

Lady Sovereign has some pretty dancehall roots I think!

hahaha! i think i can safely predict that no, you shall have no luck. i suggest you start looking for female artists instead and pick out the least heterosexist ones? also there's a lot of dub records with hardly any lyrics, or just incoherent druggy ramblings sampled into them, these are usually the best ones.

What's the deal with Jamaicans and homophobia? Does Jah hate Fags?

I'll take my dub in the form of inflections thank you!

i don't *know* if lady sovereign will be what you are looking for.
female dancehall reggae types (but very heterosexual) who i enjoy are tanya stephens and lady saw.
