Art not Ads!

Right. Well. I thought I'd just give it a bash anyway. Here goes! (It will be fun, please play!)

Are you sick of constantly being told that you'll be happier and more successful if you buy more Stuff? Are you sick of the blatant sexism of advertising? Are you sick of seeing ads jammed into every available space?

Don't despair! June 16th is the first **Art not Ads** day, and it's very easy to be a part of, just follow three easy steps...

Step 1 - In the days leading up to June 16th, pick out one (or more) ads near you - it could be ads on bus shelters, around your workplace, or even a billboard if you're feeling ambitious. You could do this alone or with a group of friends, whatever you prefer.
Step 2 - Decide what you're going to cover the ad(s) with. Maybe a poster you make yourself, or a copy of art that you like, a message that you feel is important, or even just a colourful sheet of paper. The point is to show people how much more meaningful and beautiful the messages we see around us could be. Your art should also be easy for you to put up quickly.
Step 3 - On the night of June 15th, or the morning of June 16th, put up your art - one less advertisement, one more piece of public art.

Enjoy! Inspire! Tell your friends!

cool. things like that are always fun. are you going to try and actually organize a lot of people to participate or will you just tell your friends and see what happens? everyone should post pictures of what they did for that day!

i wish i could do something about that billboard down the road, it's way up on a wall and you can reach it only with a very very long ladder. the fpö quite frequently use it to spread their xenophobia which is ridiculous because the large majority of people who live on that part of my road are immigrants. it pisses me off so much.

I am not very good at organising, so I'm just going to tell a heap of people and hope that they tell other people and hope that some of the people that hear about it actually get enthusiastic and do it.

Maybe I will try to make up a flyer or something to stick around the place in coming weeks? I am not very good at that sort of things, but I can try.

It would be really cool if people posted pictures of it! Actually I think I will be happy and somewhat surprised if anyone does it at all.

But it would be nifty.
